It is a requirement of registration that all applicants provide evidence of Building Permits and Certificates of Final Inspections for all building works conducted over the past 10 years.
The City of Greater Geelong has a duty of care to ensure the safety of all children who use Family Day Care. It is also important to reduce the risk of litigation to FDC Educators and council in the event of an accident.
Whilst Council’s Family Day Care Co-ordination unit staff conduct annual safety checks, they are not authorised to finalise building works. In order to ascertain the status of building works of registered FDC Educator’s homes, the following is required:
All new building works must comply with the current legislation. Glazing (new or replacement glass) must be in accordance with AS 1288 (updated 1994).
If your home has not had any building works / renovations over the last 10 years, please complete Questionnaire One.
If your home has had any building works / renovations over the last 10 years, please complete Questionnaire Two.
If you are unsure of whether your home has undergone any building works in the last ten years, you may request details of building permits (building permit number and status of permit) for the last ten years by completing a confidential “Building Information request” form, part C for a legislated fee. This form can be obtained from council’s customer service centres or council’s Building Department located at Wurriki Nyal. This will enable FDC Educators to complete the correct questionnaire.
FDC Educators who reside in rental properties may choose to approach their landlord/agent individually, or may complete the “Building Information Request” as mentioned above.
Should you have any queries on matters relating to this information, please contact The City's Senior Building Surveyor, on 5272 4480.
